so subbing tuesday was another story. i was supposed to be there at noon. normally it would take me 15 minutes to get there, but it was snowy, so i left at 11:15. took the freeway about half way there and then traffic seemed to stop. so i got off and took the back roads. too bad i dont' really know my way around west duluth very well yet. i did pretty good until i got to this one road and got all twisted around. eventually i got where i needed to, but i had to run in and was like 3 minutes late. oops. so i finally got to the classroom i needed to go to and was like, oh good, they are at lunch right now, so ihave a few minutes to get organized and stuff. then the teacher warned me that she has a "big, loud class, but you just need to tell them to stop and work, even if you feel like you're being mean. you just have to do it." ok so fine. worried me a little, but they were 3rd graders, couldnt' be too bad. well as soon as they came back from lunch, one of the girls was goofing around, fell and hit her head on a desk. and i was like, oh great, why me? so i sent her to the nurse. but then the rest of the afternoon was just crazy. loud. kids didn't want to work or follow directions. craziness. it didn't help that it had been snowing all afternoon and they could all look out the window to see it. so finally they leave to go home. and it had snowed a good foot since i had been there, so the teacher next door, was like "just go, don't worry about leaving a note or correcting anything, just get going." so i go out to my car, wearing my dress shoes, walkign in a foot of snow. luckily my boots were in the car. why i didn't bring them in is beyond me. so i put my freezing boots on. spend 10 minutes brushing off my car and watching all the other teachers gettign stuck in the parking lot while trying to get out. i called adam to see if he could try to find a ride home with someone because i knew it would take forever for me to get up to the airport area to get him and then drive home. luckily cirrus was shutting down too, so one of his coworkers who lives about a mile from us brought him home. finally i'm ready to go. luckily i had thought ahead and backed into my parking spot, so i was able to get out just fine. probably would have been a different story if i had had to back out. i got out of the parking lot just fine. thank God for 4-wheel drive. but then, the roads were horrible. deep snow. people spinning tires trying to move. i didn't want to take the freeway cuz i knew it had been bad 4.5 hours ago and was sure it woul dbe much worse now, so i took the side roads back the whole way. at times i could see the freeway, and they didn't seem to be moving much faster than i was, so i didn't mind too much. but my average speed was probably like 3 mph. i spent more time stopped than moving i think. then i was worried, because i didnt' know htat are well and i knew when i left that i only had 1/4 tank of gas. so i tried to keep an eye out for gas stations, but they were all on the opposite side of the road and traffic was horrible - i knew it woul dbe hard to get across and then even harder to get back across where i needed to go. so finally i found one on my side of the road and gassed up. i probably would have been fine, but didn't want to risk it. but anyways, it took me like 2 hours go the 5 miles from the school in west duluth to downtown duluth. once i got through downton, it only took me like 10 minutes to get home (another 5 miles). it was pretty crazy though. we only got about 4 inches of snow up in east duluth. but they ended up getting close to 20 inches down in west duluth because of the lake effect. 3 days later, it is still headlines in the newspaper and on the news. lol.
yesterday, i decided to do some shopping. i had a bunch of returns to do and some gift cards to spend, so i dropped adam off at work around 7:30 then spent the rest of the mornign bumming around some stores. got some great deals at target and kohl's. then in the afternoon, i came home and shoveled the snow from yesterday. picked adam up at work later that afternoon, stopped for him to get a haircut, then came home and relaxed.
